Why it exists
The sector has a workforce problem. We decided to put money into it.
Talented people want to become early childhood teachers and cannot afford the degree. That is a straightforward barrier with a straightforward solution.
The Fraser Foundation is a charitable trust co-founded by Jae Fraser and Drew Heslehurst. Since 2021 it has contributed more than $860,000 to the sector through scholarships, funded diplomas and research grants.
It is not a marketing programme and it is not run through the business. It is a separate trust with its own board.
What it funds
Three things, all aimed at getting more qualified teachers into rooms.
Scholarships
Over $400,000 awarded to aspiring early childhood teachers who could not otherwise attend university.
Funded diplomas
Qualifications paid for outright, for educators already working in the sector.
Research grants
Funding for practitioners researching questions the sector needs answered.
We measure success by how many qualified teachers end up in rooms, not by what it does for the business.
Free professional development
Open to the sector, not just to services we manage.
The Foundation runs a professional development series for early childhood educators. Anyone in the sector can attend, at no cost.
That is deliberate. A provider we will never work with training their team better is still a good outcome for children.
Why it matters to a provider
The people who would run your service put their own money into the workforce.
You do not have to care about this. It is not part of what you would be paying for, and it will not appear on an invoice.
But if you are deciding who to trust with your service, it is a data point. Every management company will tell you they care about educators. This is what it looks like when someone means it.
